What to Expect at SCV Family Chiropractic

All Ages. All Stages. Gentle, Personalized Chiropractic Care in Santa Clarita.

Welcome to SCV Family Chiropractic!

From newborns and growing children to expectant mothers, adults, and seniors, Dr. Joanne Buettner, DC, provides gentle chiropractic care tailored to every stage of life.

With more than 30 years of experience serving families, including over 20 years in Santa Clarita, Dr. Buettner combines thorough evaluations, advanced training, and a personalized approach to chiropractic care.

Our new-patient process typically takes place over two visits, allowing time for a comprehensive examination, a review of your findings, and an informed discussion about your care before adjustments begin.

Your First Visit: Consultation and Chiropractic Examination

Step 1: Getting to Know You

Your first appointment begins with a conversation about your health history, current concerns, and personal health goals.

We want to understand what brought you into our office, how your concerns affect your daily life, and what you hope to accomplish through chiropractic care.

For our youngest patients, we work closely with parents to understand their child's health history, development, and individual needs.

Step 2: Your Chiropractic Examination

Dr. Buettner performs a chiropractic examination appropriate for your age, health history, and individual needs.

Your examination may include:

  • Spinal Palpation: Examining the spine by hand to identify tenderness, muscle tension, and restricted movement.
  • Postural Evaluation: Assessing posture and spinal positioning.
  • Range-of-Motion Assessment: Evaluating how freely and comfortably your spine and joints move.
  • Additional Testing: Recommending further evaluation when indicated by your health history or examination findings.

Step 3: Understanding Your Nervous System's Response to Stress

What if you could actually see how your nervous system handles stress?

Stress affects everyone, but each person's nervous system responds differently.

The NeuroInfiniti Stress Response Evaluation (SRE) provides an objective look at how your brain and body respond to stress, recover from it, and regulate themselves.

As part of our initial evaluation process, we typically incorporate this comfortable, noninvasive assessment when appropriate, generally beginning around age 4.

In less than 15 minutes, the SRE measures brain and body responses simultaneously, providing insight into your individual stress-response patterns and establishing a baseline to monitor changes over time.

Stress, made visible. Progress, made measurable.

Your Second Visit: Report of Findings and Chiropractic Care

Step 4: Your Report of Findings

During your second appointment, Dr. Buettner reviews your examination findings and explains how they relate to your health concerns.

Together, we'll discuss:

  • Your examination results
  • Whether chiropractic care is appropriate
  • Your recommended care plan
  • The suggested frequency of visits, when applicable
  • Any questions you may have

You'll have an opportunity to understand your findings and discuss your options before beginning care.

Step 5: Your First Chiropractic Adjustment

Following your Report of Findings, your first chiropractic adjustment typically takes place during this second visit.

Dr. Buettner is Advanced Proficiency Rated in the Activator Technique and follows the Activator Methods protocol, using specific analytical procedures to determine where adjustments are indicated.

She then uses the Activator adjusting instrument to deliver gentle, precise, low-force adjustments without the twisting or forceful movements associated with traditional manual techniques.

Your care is tailored to your examination findings, comfort level, and individual needs.

Exceptions to our standard two-visit process may be made based on individual circumstances and clinical needs.
