Meet the Doctor

Who knew that 30 something years ago, a take your daughter to work day (even before there was an "official" one) would have such an impact on so many people?  I just adored my father (and I still do), and I couldn't wait to help him in his office when he first opened up.  I was his helper for the day.  I got to schedule patients, answer the phone, and greet patients as they walked in.  I will never forget seeing patients walk in into my dad's office bent over and walk out standing up straight with a big smile on their face.

Probably the most memorable patient for me was Rowena Able, a post-polio, wheelchair bound bubbly lady in her senior years.  She always brought my dad flowers from her garden, year round (which wasn't a small feat in Oregon).  Her husband always brought her in and together they would get their adjustments. Rowena always had a  smile on her face and was very grateful for the care my dad provided. No, my dad didn’t “cure” her post-polio. In fact, he didn’t “cure” anything. He just allowed her body to be as healthy as it could be. In her later years, she was the only patient my dad made house calls for when she was unable to leave the home. I know my dad helped to make her last years very fulfilling ones.  My dad would always tell me that what he did was he added years to your life, but most importantly, life to your years. I knew that was true, especially with Rowena.

Back then, some thirty-something years ago, seeing what my dad did, using no drugs, no surgery—he didn’t cut anyone open, no shaking or baking; and yet, people were getting healthier, just by my dad’s own two hands, I knew, that someday, I too would do the same thing. I too, would become a chiropractor.

I received my bachelor’s in Arts in Psychology from Oregon State University where I met and married my physics tutor. After we got married, we both knew that we wanted to continue our education and if we wanted to live in the same state, southern California was where we needed to be. When I graduated from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Los Angeles, I became the 7th chiropractor in my family. My dad, brother, and 4 cousins are chiropractors as well. Doug, my husband, recently graduated from USC with a PhD in Astronautical Engineering. You will probably hear me mention that I married a rocket scientist.

We have one child, Jennifer, who is in 8th grade at Arroyo Seco Junior High. She loves it and is becoming very involved in the student government. She wants to be a mathematician when she grows up and I have no doubt she will succeed. What family would be complete with out a family pet? Our dog, Angel, came to our home as a rescue for Jennifer as a Christmas present in the first grade. That is the only reason she is named Angel….you would think she would mellow with age.  Oh well.

I have always loved children and knew that I wanted to help as many kids as possible in my practice. My husband wasn’t surprised when I went back to school after graduation and received my Fellowship in Pediatrics from the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association. It gives me tremendous joy and satisfaction to be able to help the next generation live life to their fullest potential!! I specialize in newborns, pregnancy, and kids of all ages. Currently, my oldest “child” will be 93 years young soon, and still cannot decide what she wants to be when she grows up! I am also certified in the Webster technique used to help turn a baby that is not head down before delivery.

I use a technique called Activator and am the only one certified in the Santa Clarita Valley. This technique is very gentle yet very effective in removing subluxations caused by previous spinal injuries or traumas that have healed in wrong causing spinal distortions, muscle spasms, pain and inflammation, and eventually spinal degeneration.

I have a vision as to what I want for my office and the community. My vision is to educate the people of the Santa Clarita Valley and to make a difference in people’s lives by introducing Wellness Chiropractic to as many families as possible. Our office seeks families who place health as their number one priority and attract those willing and able to make it a reality. With your help, we can and we will make a difference. With healthy families, anything is possible.
